St. Michael’s Choir, Orlim; winners of The Traditional All Goa Carol Singing Contest organized by Betalbatim Cricket Club

The Traditional All Goa Carol Singing Contest organized by Betalbatim Cricket Club on 18^th December, ushered in Christmas festivities in Betalbatim. St. Michael's Choir, Orlim bagged top honours, while Natal Chorus, Vasco won the Second Prize. Club Acoustica of Chowgule College, Margao won third place in a field of ten. Twinkling Stars of St. Jude's, Betalbatim who performed in the non-competitive category were awarded a Special Prize. 

The Tiny Tots of Natal Chorus trained like their seniors by Nayantara Lima Leitao won the hearts of the large audience and were rewarded with a special trophy. The Prizes were given away by Chief Guest Mickky Pacheco MLA, Parish Priest Fr. Pascoal Afonso who presided, and Club President Franklin Fernandes. The Contest compered by Xavier Cota and judged by Dr. Alan Rodrigues, Mr. Vasco Figueiredo and Mr. Arlindo de Miranda was held in the beautiful ambience of the Parish Park and included a quiz on Carols. Isidorio Mendes proposed the vote of thanks.

Goan Traditional Fair at betalbatim feast

Betalbatim celebrates two Church feasts every year, one in the month of January and other in the month of August. The nine day novena mass gathers the whole village to a series of  sermons preached by visiting priests guiding people through the various challenges of the modern world. 

The village fair is set up the previous evening with stalls of traditional goan sweets, agricultural implements , toys , game stalls.. The village comes alive to the sounds of brass band before the first mass and during the traditional procession around the enclosed garden infront of the Church.

Betalbatim village came alive to a festive mood on Sunday 25th Aug 2013. The feast of St. Bartholomew was celebrated with pomp. The streets around the Church square witnessed children rushing to buy toys, traditional sweets that surface only during such feasts.

Stalls displaying items which are available in market are picked up keeping to traditions of special purchasing at feast. The Parish Youth organized their own stall with games of skill and had crowds lining up to try the luck and display their skill. Latter in the evening there was a football match which followed by a musical at Social Club hall

All Goa Inter Village football Tournament 2013

All roads lead to the All Goa Inter Village football Tournament 2013 finals to be played between ST. ANTHONY CLUB COLVA V/S NAVELIM VILLAGER'S UNION.

All Goa Inter-school Elocution Competition organised by Joseph Afonso Memorial Trust on 21 july 2013

Joseph Afonso Memorial Trust, held its XIX^th Annual Felicitation of SSCE & HSSCE toppers of the village on Sunday 21^st July 2013 at Social Club Hall, Betalbatim.The All Goa Inter-school Elocution Competition with the two topics: Will Mopa Airport benefit Goa? Does Goa have a will to solve the Garbage Problem? drew as many as thirteen schools. 

Amanda Botelho of Fatima Convent, Margao, won the 1^st Prize while Jane Pereira of St. Mary's, Varca & Leanne Mesquita of St. Jude's, Betalbatim were the first and second runners-up. All the winners spoke out eloquently against Mopa Airport. It is a matter of pride that both the 1^st and 3^rd Prize winners are parishioners of Betalbatim.

Top rankers Mark D'Costa, Mevny Almeida, Liaura Carvalho & Jenice Ratos from the SSCE and Callens Pereira & Manila Diniz from HSSCE were felicitated at the hands of Chief Guest Fr. Pascoal Afonso. The Parish Priest complimented the Trust for holding the event and congratulated the toppers and the winners of the Inter-school Contest, remarking that our 40 MLAs should have been present to hear the feelings of students on these crucial issues.

Chairman of SSCE & HSSCE Board, Jose Remedios Rebello, Acting Asst. Matron of GMC and Florence Nightingale Awardee Eliza Rodrigues and Progressive Farmer Alvito Barreto, were bestowed with Awards of Excellence by the Trust. All three spoke of the important role their native village Betalbatim had played in their formative years. 

Mrs. Lulita Carvalho who spoke on behalf of fellow judges Fatima Coutinho and Clinton Vaz, congratulated the contestants and gave several important tips on public speaking to them.  

Guest of Honour Dr. Oscar Lourenço and Trustee Jose Pereira also gave away the prizes. Leticia Afonso, daughter of Joseph Afonso welcomed the gathering, while Trustee Isidorio Mendes gave the vote of thanks. The function was compered by Xavier Cota.

RATION QUOTA DURING THE MONTH OF JULY, 2013

The Department of Civil Supplies and consumer affairs has informed the ration card holders in the state of Goa are allotted ration quota during the month of July 2013.

All the Fair Price Shops owners are informed that the quota lifting should start w.e.f. June 27, 2013 onwards and they should lift at least 50% of their released quota on or before July 7, 2013 and balance quota shall be lifted on or before July 15, 2013 strictly and no extension would be granted for lifting. 

The Fair Price Shops are required to display the details of stocks as well as sample quality of grains for consumer information and all cardholder consumers are requested to give their complaints if any to the respective Jt. Fr. Jose Ubaldo D'Cunha bid farewell to Betalbatim Parish on 31st May 2013, but not before inaugurating the beautification phase II of the the church square. Thursday the 30th of May will be remembered not only for the showers that poured during the inauguration but also for the good work Fr. Ubaldo started seven years to transform Betalbatim Parish.

Fr. Ubaldo cut the ribbon in the distinguished presence of Mr.Francisco Xavier Pacheco ( M.L.A - NUVEM constituency ), former Fabrica Attorney Mr. Franky Fernandes, Social justice activist Mr. Isidore Mendes, President elect of Fabrica Mr. Hillary Cota, P.P.C Moderator Ms. Lorraine Godinho , Panch Members Mr. Anthony, Mr. Micheal, Mr.Vincent, Mr. Peter.

The parishioners braved the pouring rains to witness the last ribbon cutting ceremony during the tenure of Fr. Ubaldo as a Parish priest of Betalbatim . This was followed by a thanks giving mass to thank the Lord for the services of Fr. Jose Ubaldo D'Cunha as the parish priest and Fr. Jeronimo Afonso as the asstt. priest . After the mass end few representatives of the various groups in Betalbatim spoke about the good work that Fr. Ubaldo has left behind and showered praises on Mr. Francisco Xavier Pacheco who was instrumental in getting the front and backside of the church beautified., it was very touching to see Mickky get emotional as he voiced his gratitude to Fr. Ubaldo for giving him an opportunity to contribute to the Parish and the crowd for standing by him during his difficult times. The Parish got together to forget and forgive and all differences were ironed out on a happy note . Fr.Ubaldo you may be no longer in our parish, but in our hearts we hold you close for the wonderful person you are. Every visit to the garden will remind us of the love you spread for nature and the greenery you left behind .

Cielda Pereira, a budding star that has bloomed in the garden of Betalbatim. Once a sleepy little village that has given Goa , quite a bunch of talent musicians, sportsmen, tiatrists has in recent times churned out talent of the new generation. Renowned singer Smt. Rita Rose, wife of Late Alfred Rose left the crowd enthralled with her song at Betalbatim on the  5th May 2013. Smt. Rita Rose  was the Chief Guest for the function "VOICE OF BETALBATIM " which is one of the event of the ongoing 50 years celebration of St. Judes High School, Betalbatim. 

"VOICE OF BETALBATIM " was organized by the ex-students of  St. Judes High School, Betalbatim, under the leadership of Mr. Jouquim Faleiro giving opportunity to fellow betparkars to display their talent. During the facilitation ceremony Smt. Rita Rose was requested to sing a song of her choice which she obliged much to the delight of the crowd that will cherish the moment for quite some time.

Cleaning up Betalbatim

Once a shy village where development seemed a distant dream, now Betalbatim is moving ahead with constructions , better roads, eat-outs ..more picnics to the famous sunset beach near Nanu Resorts, or the other famous patch Lovers beach, all this makes puff up our chest with pride that we are modern now.

We might still have the small mini buses plying at snails pace which at times even a toddler can over take with a tricycle, but addition of 2 and 4 wheelers are quite evident on sunday at the church square. This all adds up to a serious garbage  problem. We had waste management getting into place with Clinton Vaz conducting workshops in collaboration with Betalbatim Civic and Consumer Forum , and support of the Village panchayat Betalbatim.

The segregation of wet and dry waste which can be at the point  where waste is generated helps in systematic disposal of waste. There are other types of waste  like E-WASTE that needs careful processing and proper knowledge to dispose to prevent damage to Ecology . Information reaching Police formation indicates that: There is a syndicate
of criminals selling beautiful key holders at Petrol Stations.  They
sometimes parade themselves as sales promoters giving out free key holders.
Please do not buy or accept these key holders no matter how beautiful they
look.  

The key holders have inbuilt tracking device chip which allows them to
track you to your home or wherever your car is parked . The key holders are
very beautiful to resist. Accepting same may endanger your life.  All are
therefore requested to pass this message  to colleagues, family members and
loved ones.  Be on guard.

Alert everyone in your family , friends , relatives.

It is an eye opener for many a youth who squander away their resourceful youth away . Stacy Rodrigues has forged ahead into the field that many fear to venture into. Diagnosed with Heredomascular degeneration at the age of 14, Stacy found herself grow into darkness with all avenues closing for her. I remember her as a cheerful youth who never missed the Choir practise with her sister. She never missed an opportunity to sing even if it was during her journey from Betalbatim to Margao in the bus. Even if Goa College of music didnt see the artist in her , she was focused and went ahead to complete her Diploma in Radio Management from the Academy of Broadcasting.

What a team? her proud mother always stood by her and Stacy in turn was a moral support to her mother in their testing times. 

TOUGH TMES DONT LAST , TOUGH PEOPLE DO so very true. a new chapter had dawned in Stacy's life . During her journey through rejection and loneliness , she had penned down her some poems where she expresses a lot of her emotions. A book consisting a compilation of 48 poems written  during Stacy's struggle can be an inspirational addition to anyones  collection.

Her exhibition has proved that you dont need larger  , well renowned platforms to showcase your talent, but God sends some kind heart angels if your determination to work hard towards you goal is stronger than your weakness.
