Club of Betalbatim Villagers in Mumbai

Club of Betalbatim Villagers in Mumbai was founded in the year 1845 .Our club('kud', as it is known in Konkani) is a residential accommodation for the catholic residents of Betalbatim. It's situated in Mazgaon, Mumbai.

This structure has been providing accommodation for young boys who travel to Mumbai in search of gainful employment on the ship and abroad. Time has come to do repairs of the club so it can provide shelter for the generations to come.

The club has four rooms and has a common toilet house outside. The plans of repairs and renovation include.

• Flooring and tiling of all the four rooms.
• Complete new electrical rewiring .
• Construct toilet , bathroom inside.

The total expense has been roughly estimated to be around 4.5 lakhs. This is a humble request to the villagers to willingly contribute for this cause. Those who wish to contribute for this Club renovation may contact Mr. Joe Cota in Goa or Mr. Nelson Alfonso in Mumbai. Donations can be also directly transferred to the Club bank account.

Goa Against Coal, meet at Betalbatim

Goa Against Coal, is a movement to safe guard Goa from the devastating effects of coal. The representatives of Goa Against Coal gave a presentation to the assembled audience.
The villagers of Betalbatim were awestuck to the rich biodiversity of Goa. They saw some of the unheard treasures that have been blessed by God. But the smiles were short lived as the horrendous truth unfolded. They were shocked as to how goans had more to loose than to gain from the coal episode.
There will be not a single religion that will be spared from this disastrous move to allow coal to land in Goa. Many were fuming with rage to see how Goans have been used. The hospitalble nature of goans has been back stabbed.
Many who saw the presentation first time vowed to support the movement Goa Against Coal.  The religious head of the village, Parish Priest of Our lady of Remedios Church was present, The village Panchayat was represented by the sarpanch, Betalbatim Development Front supremo along with their key members attended. The villagers have vowed to pass a resolution against coal and the nationalisation of goan rivers.

Perpetual Succor Convent H.S wins All Goa Mando Dance Compettiion

Social Club of Betalbatim has Organised  its annual programme of Mando Competition on 18^th October 2017 at Social Club Hall – Betalbatim (Dr. Jose Cota Memorial Hall)

The programme started at 1030 hrs. The Vice President of the Club Mr. Manuel D’Costa welcomed the gathering. Mr. Donald Pereira and Mr. Brian Rodrigues  compered the full programme.

Mr. Constancio Miranda – Sarpanch – V.P. Betalbatim was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Pascoal Afonso and Fr. Milagres Fernandes were the Guest of honour of the function.

We had a well experienced Jury to judge the performance, Mr. Arlindo Miranda, Mrs. Artimizia Gama and Mr. Alvaro Pereira were the Judges.

Mr. Ciriaco Cota proposed the vote of thanks.

The Prize wining schools were as under :-

1)      Perpetual Succor Convent High School – Navelim  ---- 1^st Prize

2)      St. Anthony’s High School – Majorda ----- 2^nd Prize

3)      St. Jude High School – Betalbatim --- 3^rd Prize

4)      St. Xaviers High School – Velim --- Consolution Prize

The Chief Guest Mr. Constancio Miranda while speaking to the gathering appreciated the participating school children and the teachers their efforts to keep Goa’s tradition alive. He also highlighted the programmes conducted by Social Club of Betalbatim and praised the members of the Club for their selfless services to the society.

Betalbatim Church Cemetery gets a diginified look

Our Lady of Remedios Church has a beautiful well maintained garden and a clean paved area between the garden and the Church. Much work and development has been done inside the church also. The parishioners have been generously contributing towards the developmental works of the Church and Cemetery . The Parish Priest Rev. Fr Pascoal afonso along with present committee has initiated the maintenance of the Church Cemetery ( located east of the Church ). Repair works of the roof was completed before mosoon. Graves have been built-up to create space and have uniformity . The Cemetery has been well illuminated on the outside as well inside.

Fruit garden behind the Betalbatim Church gets Illuminated

On the the feast day of the Assumption of Mary this year,  the Parishioners of Betalbatim had something to cheer. The Garden With fruit bearing tress behind the Church was illuminated . 

The illumination of the fruit garden was inaugurated by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Pascoal Afonso in the presence of Mr. Hillary Cota and Mr. Isidore Mendes . Mr. Josler Cota welcomed the crowd gathered for the function. 

The associations of Betalbatim had their representatives present for the inauguration . Mr. Franklin Fernandes ( Betalbatim Cricket Club), Melvin Cota ( Betalbatim Sporting Club), Menino Cota ( Social Club of Betalbatim ), Mrs. Sucorina ( Cathecist ), Mr. Josler Cota ( Parish Youth of Betalbatim). 

 The newly elected Sarpanch Mr. Constancio Miranda and his deputy Anthony Fernandes was present with  his team of panchayat members. Fr. Pascoal Afonso recited  the evening Angelus along with the parishioners. He thanked the members of the Chaul Ward for bearing the cost of the illumination expense.

Dubai Cup, 7 A side inter ward tournament in Betalbatim for married.This tournament is being organised in the memory of Late Melvin,Louis,Bartolomeo,Agnelo. The tournament will be held on Holy Family Ground on 15th August 2017 from 10.00 am onwards.

Rajagiri Victor Hospital opens a satellite clinic in Betalbatim

Rajagiri Victor Hospital, has opened a satellite clinic in the village of Betalbatim on 2nd April 2017.

It was blessed by Fr. Pascoal (Parish Priest, Our Lady of Remedios Church , Betalbatim) in the presence of  Mr.Mahant Prabhugaonkar (Unit Head, Rajagiri Victor Hospital), Dr.Pritesh Kote (Doctor) Lionel Gracias (Relationship Manager). The clinic is located on the first floor of the Church complex.

Church committee  officials Mr.Hillary Cota and Mr. Isidore Mendes together with office bearers of other clubs of Betalbatim were present for the inauguration. Mr. Franky Fernandes , Mrs Wilma Cota( BETALBATIM CRICKET CLUB), Mr. Cleto Cota, Mr. John Fernandes ( BETALBATIM SPORTING CLUB), MR. Jimmy Cota ( SOCIAL CLUB OF BETALBATIM ), Josler Cota ( PARISH YOUTH OF BETALBATIM) Caesar Afonso ( COUPLES FOR CHRIST ). Villagers welcomed the opening of the  clinic and availed of the basic facilities of Blood pressure check up .

Dr. Pritesh Kate will be available Monday to Saturday from 5.30pm to 8.30pm for consultations.

"HANV TUKA BOGXITAM" Tiatr by Youngsters of Betalbatim

"HANV TUKA BOGXITAM", a free tiatr ( Drama) was staged by Youngsters of Betalbatim in the Chaul ward of Betalbatim. A young cast of budding actors gave a splendid display of acting to the crowd. The Youngsters also sang konkani songs in between the acts.
